Onsernone Granite is known throughout the world, although it is actually a gneiss.
Thanks to its shape, its texture and in particular to its unique colour, it is considered one the most extraordinary stone materials in Europe.
It is particularly suitable for manual and mechanical processing and, thanks to its resistance to frost and
usage, it can be used in any kind of environment, both internal and external.
Mining areas
The gneiss called "serisso" is located in the area around Crevoladossola, in Canton Ticino and Sondrio.
For the economy of these areas, the mining and processing of the stone is very important, and has greatly influenced the regional architecture of the valleys, where it is typically used for masonry, cladding of roofs and fountains.
In Canton Ticino it has taken the name of Onsernone Granite.
